Danos Associates has expanded their legal expertise as recruitment opportunities accelerate across the legal in-house Commerce and Industry (C&I) market, by appointing Nick Wilkins as Associate Partner, Head of C&I Legal.

Nick reports that 2020 was a quiet year for C&I legal hiring, affected directly by pandemic and the crashing of oil prices, which had a significant impact on the energy sector, and the subsequent knock-on effect for other industries.

As we rapidly approach the midpoint of 2021, the market has picked up considerably across C&I, with numerous roles being released each day.  The Pharmaceutical and Technology markets continue to be buoyant, as they were in 2020, and we are beginning to see a rise in hiring activity across other sectors including Energy/Oil & Gas.

With the Covid vaccine being rolled out and market confidence growing, we expect to see increased activity for the duration of 2021.

If you are looking to hire, please reach out to Nick, who can share his market knowledge and identify the best talent for your firm, or if you are looking for a career move Nick will be happy to discuss current opportunities.

Today the Danos Group published the “UK In-House Senior Legal 2021 Moves – Q1 Report” – 2021 has been busy for Legal recruitment across the Banking and Financial Services sector. The uncertainty that we saw in 2020 is behind us, and an increased level of confidence has returned to the market.

Although most of the permanent hiring this year has been at the 2-8 years’ PQE level (VP), it is encouraging to see an increase in movement and internal promotions at the senior level of the market, as showcased in the report.

We are pleased to announce that the Danos Group has delivered outstanding performance in the year ending March 2021 with over 10% growth in Net Turnover. This amounts to the most successful year in our 17-year history.

As a global business with offices in Europe, America, and Asia we found that in 2020 business fluctuated across continents as the pandemic evolved. As a firm we are proud that we were agile in our approach and processes, and were able to react successfully and strategically respond to the changing environment. Our clients, candidates and staff have been our priority throughout, and we have ensured their safety and well-being whilst consistently delivering a high-quality service. We have supported our existing clients with their strategic hiring plans in Compliance, Financial Crime, Risk, and Legal, and significantly expanded our client portfolio, signing over sixty terms with new clients.

Danos Consulting has successfully grown by an impressive 135%, supporting businesses with specialist interim staffing solutions, and Danos Associates has seen significant revenue growth in permanent hiring across EMEA Compliance (24% increase) and Singapore Compliance and Risk markets (48% increase).

As a result of our success, we have invested in the expansion of our personnel by 25%, and plans are in place to increase headcount throughout this year and beyond to ensure that we continue to meet the demands of our clients and explore new opportunities and markets.

Throughout 2020 we delivered the best global recruitment solutions to the market. In addition, we continued our charity activities supporting both Mind and our new charity partnership with Leadership Through Sport & Business (LTSB), a social mobility charity that prepares and supports bright young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into meaningful roles with major firms. We hosted three online webinar events covering In-House Legal, Risk, and Diversity & Inclusion, where we welcomed nine industry expert panellists to share their knowledge and experience relating to trending topics. We launched a podcast series to support career development and inspiration. And we established the Danos Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committee, who are working with internal teams to develop projects, seminars, and programs designed to embed D&I into our company culture, and to promote D&I with our partner clients.

It has been a very busy year for the Danos Group, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Danos team and our clients old and new, for their ongoing support during very challenging times.

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has extended its financial crime reporting framework to include cryptocurrency businesses. Per the policy, around 7,000 firms will now have to submit a REP-CRIM return instead of the 2,500 previously. Besides crypto firms, banks, building societies, and other businesses have been brought under the REP-CRIM framework.

The return consists of information designed to compile data on potential risk areas of financial crime such as: PEPs, high risk jurisdictions & customers, number of SARs filed, sanctions screening systems, & most prevalent frauds.

Cryptocurrency exchange & wallet operators will have to submit an annual financial crime reporting document (REP-CRIM) from
March 30, 2022.

Danos Consulting can support firms as they navigate through some of challenges relating to the REP-CRIM reporting & preparation, including:

  • Data readiness, accuracy, & completeness
  • Aggregation, analysis, & interpretation of the data
  • Identification of any data gaps
  • Due diligence of SARs & AML related data
  • System reviews for risk assessment, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring & fraud
  • Regulator information requirements

Please contact Bradley Handelaar if you would like to discuss
your REP-CRIM preparation & how our expert consulting solutions can ensure you meet the regulators requirements.
